Explorer Scouts

Explorers lead.

It’s time to stop being told what to do! Well, a lot of the time anyway! Know what you want to do? Explorers are encouraged to lead themselves in deciding the programme. But we’ll always be there to help.

As Explorers, you’ll work on the programme and direction of the Unit, with support and guidance from leaders. We aim to plan activities on a termly basis, with a programme for each Explorer Unit across the district. Explorers will be able to see what is happening in different explorer units in the district, and can take part in anything going on.

The world is literally your Oyster. You can plan to do whatever you want. You can have retro-games nights, guest speakers from any organisation, go sailing for a weekend, plan a skiing trip in winter or a summer camp for a week wherever you want. You can help in community events and help manage district wide Beaver, Cub and Scout events. If you want a movie night, you’ve got it.

Want to work on teamwork? Sure – we’ll help. Want to go paragliding, fine by us. It is as an Explorer that young members can work towards the much coveted Chief Scouts Award and Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s award, and we’ll support you all the way.

You’ll work together, meet Scouts across the world, work together to plan, pay and go on trips. You’ll make friends for life, what’s better?

The section also includes the Young Leaders’ Scheme, where young people are able to take on a leadership role in one of the younger sections across the district.

Young Leaders can take part in Explorer activities if they choose, and have their own training programme.

Put your phone down and what are you left with? Just teamwork, courage and the skills to succeed.’
